Jessica Heckert
As a Ph.D. Candidate in the dual-title degree program in Demography and Human Development and Family Studies at Penn State University, I integrate approaches from population studies and human development to examine how rapidly changing social and economic contexts shape the health and educational trajectories of developing country youth. I will defend my dissertation Youth Migration and Youth Transitions: The Haitian Experience in June 2013 and am currently seeking career opportunities in government or at a think tank.
I have over nine years of international research and program implementation experience; excellent quantitative analysis skills; complimentary qualitative research experience; and substantive expertise in youth migration, sexual and reproductive health, and gender. I am skilled in technical report writing, cross-cultural communication, and presenting complex technical materials to diverse audiences. My previous work experience includes the Demographic and Health Surveys team at USAID, a research assistantship with the Families and Communities in Transition project at Penn State, and Peace Corps postings in Haiti and the Dominican Republic. I speak, Spanish, French, and Haitian Creole.
